Here's Where the Bobcats Football Team is Predicted to Land in the Little Southwest Conference

SAN ANGELO— Dave Campbell’s Texas Football magazine predicts the Bobcats to have a rough year.

The annual magazine football nerds flock to stores to buy has the San Angelo Central Bobcats finishing fifth in a district of six teams ahead only the Odessa Bronchos. It shouldn’t be much of a surprise as Central graduated basically their entire team from last season. Gone are the days of Tyler Hill to Jacob English. The Bobcat’s best defensive player, Darius Floyd, also graduated.

Dave Campbell’s sees the Little Southwest Conference playing out like this:

1. Midland Legacy Rebels
2. Wolfforth Frenship Tigers
3. Odessa Permian Panthers
4. Midland Bulldogs
5. San Angelo Central Bobcats
6. Odessa Bronchos

The Rebels feature a star quarterback in Marcos Davila who is entering his senior season. Last year, Davila went 186-314 for 3,052 yards, 36 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. His receiving room returns Aiden Serrano who had 53 catches for 741 yards and 9 touchdowns in 2022 and Brex Stevens, who caught 18 passes for 444 yards and four scores.

The Rebels only district loss came from the Frenship Tigers who put on a show last season. The Hutchesons are back and form a dynamic duo on the field. Quarterback Hudson Hutcheson put up over 3,700 yards, 36 touchdowns, and only seven interception last year. Landon Hutcheson caught 98 passes for 941 yards and five touchdowns. The other young pass catcher, Leyton Stone, was a big play every time he got his hands on the ball, going for 1,177 yards and 14 touchdowns.

It's easy to look back and see why Dave Campbell’s picked the way they did. Midland Legacy lost to Frenship and Frenship lost to Odessa Permian and Permian lost to Legacy. Out of the three, the Panthers graduated their quarterback and their big play receiver. Permian did have Juzstyce Lara take 200 carries for 999 yards and wound up in the endzone 23 times.

The Midland Bulldogs, Central Bobcats, and Odessa Bronchos will more than likely be competing for the fourth, fifth, and sixth spots.

The Bobcats absolutely could have a rough season but they’re going through a transition and will have a young team going forward. Ignore the haze of wins and losses and focus on the rebuilding. Every team goes through seniors graduating and the Bobcat’s young guys played well last season.
