SAN ANGELO, TX — Angelo State men’s basketball has signed forward Ja’Queze Kirby, the sixth addition to the Rams’ 2025 roster, head coach Vinay Patel announced Thursday.
Kirby, a 6-foot-7 transfer from Division II Augusta University in Georgia, has scored 1,113 career points while shooting 48.5% from the field and 39.2% from 3-point range. The Hazelhurst, Georgia, native has averaged 5.5 rebounds and one steal per game over 107 career appearances.
"Ja'Queze brings a wealth of experience to our program for this upcoming season," said Patel. "He is a player who plays with a high motor and has the skillset to score in a variety of ways."
In 2023-24, Kirby started 27 of 29 games for the Jaguars, averaging 14 points and 7.2 rebounds per game while leading the team in 3-pointers made. He scored a career-high 30 points in a Jan. 3 win over USC Beaufort, shooting 12-for-18 from the field with nine rebounds, four assists, and three steals.
As a freshman in 2021-22, Kirby helped Augusta to a 33-4 record, Peach Belt Conference titles, and an NCAA Southeast Regional championship before starting in the national championship game. He was named to both the Elite Eight and Southeast Regional all-tournament teams.
Kirby averaged 10.1 points and 5.5 rebounds as a sophomore, helping Augusta defend its conference crown. In high school, he was a two-time Georgia Class 2A player of the year.
“Anytime you add a player who has been on championship teams, it’s beneficial,” Patel said. “Fans are going to enjoy watching the energy he brings on game night.”
