SAN ANGELO, TX — Fast action drag boat racing converges on Lake Nasworthy this weekend, June 24 and 25, 2023. The race is stop #2 on the Southern Drag Boat Association Championship series and is billed as the Fastest Show on the Water!
Boat racers from all over the U.S. will converge on Lake Nasworthy for the competition. There are 13 categories, from personal watercraft to Top Fuel Hydro.
The Top Fuel Hydro category can see speeds as high as 270 mph in a short, less than 5-second drag race. Last year, a record was set for Nasworthy: 269 mph.
The most popular and most competitive classes are the Pro Modified and Pro Outlaw. In these categories you’ll witness speeds up to 170 mph. The Quick Eliminator category sees speeds up to 140 mph. Personal Watercraft drag racing welcomes entrants aged 14 through the 80s and is slower paced but it is exciting still to watch your neighbors battle it out for the top prize.
Spectators will be lined up along the bank of the lake from the beginning of The Horseshoe to well past Spring Creek Marina to watch the water drag way. The VIP seating area will be under a large tent right next to the boat starting line. VIP ticket holders get free breakfast and lunch in the VIP area. Staying overnight? Saturday and Sunday, the races begin right after a flyover by planes in the Commemorative Air Force at promptly 9 a.m. Racing is finished by 4 p.m. unless there is a weather delay.
