SAN ANGELO, TX — A film was made in San Angelo last week. "Losing Lalo" is a feature film that explores family and combat brothers grieving over the loss of a son, brother-in-arms, and veteran due to mental health struggle, was filmed at various San Angelo locations last week.
The starring role in the film project is the award-winning Latino actor and filmmaker based in Los Angeles, Johnny Rey Diaz. Diaz is currently a series regular on Amazon's newest single-cam comedy, "PRIMO," produced by New York Times best-selling author Shea Serrano and Michael Schur, known for producing The Office and for co-creating Parks & Recreation and Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Diaz's talent can also be seen in recurring roles on HULU's "Pam & Tommy" and ABC's "Grey's Anatomy." He has also graced the screen in acclaimed shows such as "Bosch," "Queen of the South," and "Narcos: Mexico."
Also on the cast are Alyssia Rivera, Christine Longoria, Javier Medellin, Marvin Ritchie, Erik Anderson, and Patricia Corres.
The visionary behind "Losing Lalo" is the first-ever winner of the Concho Creator Award, presented at the third annual San Angelo REVOLUTION Film Festival, Cedric Thomas Smith. He is known for his ability to create emotionally charged narratives in the film contest world.
The REVOLUTION Film Festival's inaugural year was 2020 when the event was forced to be held virtually. Since then, the festival has utilized the facilities of the San Angelo Performing Arts Center (SAPAC).
The festival was created when the City of San Angelo acquired the Film Friendly Texas designation from the Texas Film Commission. The San Angelo Destination Marketing Organization at the San Angelo Chamber of Commerce, manages the festival along with a committee of leaders from across the city. The DMO works collaboration with the creators of the Austin Revolution Film Festival, which has captured the indie film vibe of Austin since 2014.
