Houston Texans to Induct Beloved J.J. Watt in Ring of Honor

HOUSTON— The Houston Texans have announced that future Hall of Fame defensive end J.J. Watt will be inducted into the Houston Texan’s Ring of Honor this upcoming season.

On October 1, 2023, when the Texans take on the Pittsburgh Steelers, Watt will be inducted into the Ring of Honor at halftime. Both of J.J. Watt’s brothers, Derek and T.J., play for the Steelers.

Watt retired this past offseason after 12 seasons. He played for both the Texans and the Arizona Cardinals and had 114.5 sacks, 67 passes defended, two interceptions, and two defensive touchdowns.

Watt was drafted by the Texans with their first-round pick in the 2011 NFL Draft. In his first season with Houston, Watt put together 5.5 sacks, two fumble recoveries, and four passes defended.

In his second season, Watt would explode onto the scene with 20.5 sacks, 4 forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, and 16 passes defended. His sophomore season would kick off four straight seasons with at least 10 sacks (2012-20.5, 2013-10.5, 2014-20.5, 2015- 17.5)

Watt would reach that level of play twice, in 2018 with 16 sacks and last season with 12.5 sacks. Injuries derailed his career towards the end of his with Houston and was released from the team only to be picked up by the Cardinals

One of the highlights of Watt’s career would be his Walter Peyton Man of the Year Award win. Watt raised $41 million for the City of Houston after Hurricane Harvey.

Watt is the third Houston Texan to be inducted into the Houston Texans Ring of Honor along with former owner, the late Robert McNair and Andre Johnson, a former Texan great and wide receiver.
