CARY, SC — The Angelo State Rams Baseball team took another step toward a National Championship over the weekend. At the Division II College Baseball World Series in Cary, South Carolina, the Rams defeated the Southern New Hampshire Penman, 2-1, in the World Series opening round.
The Rams fell behind early in the second inning, 1-0 before they finally kicked their offense into gear. Thomas Caine singled to short to score Kam Kelton in the third inning to tie the game at one run a piece. Tripp Clark scored the eventual game-winner for Angelo State in the fourth inning off of an RBI groundout from Justin Harris.
Aaron Munson started the game on the mound for the Rams. After giving up one run early on, he escaped a bases-loaded jam in the third inning to put a stellar performance into motion. Munson retired the next 12 Penmen on the way to the victory. He finished the day with seven innings pitched, one run allowed on four hits, and finished with 11 strikeouts.
Up next, Angelo State moves into the College World Series Winner’s Bracket, where they will face second-seeded North Greenville on Tuesday, June 6, at 5 p.m.
