Niagara bottled water is being recalled voluntarily by Niagara Bottling, LLC due to concerns of one of its spring sources being contaminated with E.coli.
The voluntary recall only affects SPRING WATER (Not Purified Water) manufactured at our Hamburg, Pennsylvania and Allentown, Pennsylvania facilities with the Best By Dates between June 10 – June 18th.
The company says that out of abundance of caution and in the strict interest of public safety, all spring water products produced at both the Hamburg, PA and Allentown, PA facilities between, 3 a.m. June 10 and 8 p.m. June 18 are contaminated.
To determine if a consumers product was affected, Niagara says to reference the code information on the bottle. The code will indicate the place, date and time that the product was produced. The only affected products have codes that begin with the letter F (stands for Hamburg) or A (stands for Allentown). The first digit after the letter indicates the number of the production line. The next two numbers indicate the day, then the month in letters, the year, and then the time, based on a 24 hour clock.
An example would be: A610JUN152000
Meaning: Allentown line 6, manufactured on June 10, 2015 at 8p.m.
Here is a list of products that are also sold by Niagara Bottling, LLC under the following brand names that were also produced at the same sites and run the risk of contamination:
- Acadia
- Acme
- Big Y
- Best Yet
- 7-11
- Niagara
- Nature’s Place
- Pricerite
- Superchill
- Morning Fresh
- Shaws
- Shoprite
- Western Beef Blue
- Wegman’s
Niagara says that it was not notified in a timely manner by the spring source, but that they have discontinued the use of the source. Niagara is advising consumers to not drink the affected water without boiling it first or to just not drink it at all and use other bottled water.
The presence of E.coli bacteria indicates that the water may be contaminated with human or animal wastes. This may cause diarrhea, cramps, nausea, headaches or other symptoms. It may pose a special health risk for infants, young children, some elderly and people with compromised immune systems.
