ABILENE— Abilene Police are offering a reward for information leading to the arrest of a man who was shot by police.
In January 2023, offiers were called to an area in the 3500 block of North 9th Street in Abilene for a broken vehicle window. While inspecting the vehicle, illegal narcotics were located and shortly after, Robert Guevara walked up to the vehicle.
Guevara had a child with him and placed the child in the backseat of the vehicle when he was confronted by Abilene Police. He refused to comply with officers and pulled a firearm out of his waistband. Former Abilene Police Chief Marcus Dudley said this is when the shooting from officers occurred and Guevara was shot.
Guevara received medical treatment and survived the injury. Guevara claimed he found the gun on the ground and picked it up after he put his son in his cousin’s car. He then claimed the police on scene did not identify themselves and shot him while he was trying to hand them the gun.
Guevara was released in April 2023 on bond and has reported fled.
Guevara is considered a most wanted fugitive now and police are offering $1,000 for information that leads to his arrest.
If anyone knows Guevara’s whereabouts or anyone who does, they are encouraged to contact Abilene Crime Stoppers at (325) 676-8477.
