AUSTIN, TX — Paint Rock ISD has a new State Champion headed to its record books. Austin Magness won the UIL Class 1A Boys 3200-meter run in 10:09.26. The young man braved the downpour of rain throughout his race to set the new school record and bring home the championship.
Rainfall picked up more and more throughout the race on Saturday, May 13. The harsh weather conditions failed to affect Magness too much, as he maintained 2nd place until the final lap. With 400 meters to go, Magness found himself down by almost 20 meters. He kicked his legs into high gear to make up that distance and took the lead with less than half a lap remaining.
After he won the 1A 3200-meter Title, Magness was all smiles on the podium even though his clothes were completely soaked through because of the rain. Check out the photos from the State Meet below.

Magness now holds two different records at Paint Rock High School after his championship-winning race today. He broke the 3200-meter record set by Jonathan Santiago in 2012. Magness also holds the record for the fastest 1600-meter in school history.
Congratulations to Paint Rock High School and Austin Magness for such a successful Track season. The young man worked hard throughout the year and has a bright future with more success ahead. Magness maybe already a state champion in the 3200-meter run, but he still has the 1600-meter to go. Inclement weather has delayed the running events in Austin several times already today, so this article will be updated whenever more information is available.
UPDATE: Austin finished 6th in the 1600m run on Saturday evening in a close race. However the young man ran a personal best and new school record time of 4:44.55.
