SAN ANGELO – A strong storm system is poised to move slowly across West Texas over the weekend dumping up to 4 to 6 inches in places and weather experts are warning that Flash Flooding will be a major issue in specific areas.
According to Meteorologists with the National Weather Service office in San Angelo, a slow moving storm system will generate several waves of rain and thunderstorms over the Concho Valley this weekend. Most of the area will see periods of heavy rain and flooding beginning Friday night. The area of most concern is south of a Brownwood to San Angelo to Sonora line which has already seen a lot of rain already this week so flash flooding will be likely.
Most area creeks and streams are dry but will fill and flood rapidly beginning Friday night in areas were rain is heaviest. Expect Flash Flood Watches and Warnings beginning Friday night. Flash Flooding can develop in a matter of minutes into a life threatening situation.
Friday night in the Concho Valley there is an 80% chance of rain with up to 2 inches possible. Saturday the rain chance increases to 90% with an additional 2 inches possible. Saturday night through Monday there is decreasing chance of rain with accumulations of an additional 2 to 4 inches of rainfall possible in areas that receive the heaviest rainfall.
This is the largest and most significant rain event of the year thus far.
Rain chances continue through mid week across the region.
