SOUTH PADRE ISLAND, TX – A massive hammerhead shark was caught off of the South Texas Coast last week.
According to reports, on May 5, 2023, anglers Glenn Laskowski Jr. and his friend Junior reeled in a 14'4" foot Hammerhead Shark on the beach on South Padre Island.
The fishermen and the shark battled for an hour and a half before the 1000 lbs apex predator gave up.
After getting it onto the shore, the two attempted to dehook and throw the fish back. Unfortunately the fight took it out of the shark so it was humanely killed.
"Unfortunately, the fish didn’t wanna swim off due to its size and long fight in over all the sandbars. Not all swim off but most will," said Laskowski to a local news media outlet. "The meat was all given away and very greatly appreciated by everyone."
Shark fishing is legal in Texas as the state has a healthy shark population. There are guidelines on how you can fish for them. These rules are set by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. For more info on these rules click here.
