Wall ISD Celebrates Athletes at Awards Banquet

WALL— The Wall Hawks Athletic Booster Club held the Hawk’s athletics sports banquet Monday night.

It was a big night for the Hawks as several Wall seniors, and underclassmen, took home the Wall Hawk MVP awards.

Junior Chloe Jones and sophomore Jacob Soto ran away with the cross-country MVP awards for the Hawks. Soto was a third-place district finisher, a top 10 Regional finisher, and a state qualifier while Jones was a top 10 district finisher.

Kamryn Williams, who signed with ASU earlier this year, won Wall’s volleyball MVP. She was the district MVP, made the Academic All-District team, a Big Country Prep 1st Team, Texas Sports Writers All-State 3rd team, TGCA All-State Team, and FCA All-Star.

It wouldn’t be fair to not mention Williams other accolades as was a First-Team All-District selection, as well as an Academic All-District selection, TABC Academic All-State selection, TGCA All-State selection, and TGCA All-Academic All-State selection in basketball. In track and field, Williams is a state qualifier for shot put and set the Wall school records with throws of 41’7” in shot put and 137’4” in discus.

The Hawks put out a very good season in football, but senior Jayden Sellers took home the Hawks MVP award. Sellers did everything the Hawk’s coaches asked him to do and ended his senior season with 50 carries for 277 yards and three touchdowns. On defense, Sellers put up 69 total tackles, seven tackles for loss, one sack, 11 quarterback hurries, one interception, and one pass defended.

Hawk All-Stars Everson Armstrong and Brylyn Watts took home the awards for basketball. Armstrong signed with ASU earlier this season and was the district MVP, a TABC All-Region selection, as well as an Academic All-District and All-State selection.

Watts, who is only a sophomore, was an All-District First-Team selection, as well as an All-District Academic and a TABC All-Region selection.

On the track, senior Kaylee Bartz and junior Ryan Allen went home with the MVP award. Bartz was a regional qualifier in the 4 x100 and the 4 x 200 relays and Allen is a state qualifier in the high jump, regional qualifier in the long jump, the 200-meter run, and the 4 x200 and 4 x 400-meter relay.

Senior Payne Smith and sophomore Katelynn Holtman are the Wall Hawk MVPs for tennis. Holtman is a state qualifier and Smith, along with Bryson Hirt, were state finalists.

For baseball and softball, senior Rheanna Kleman and junior Dylan Gidney won the award. Gidney is still playing as the Hawks will take on Bowie in Glen Rose.

On the golf course, senior Shay West, who signed with Hardin-Simmons earlier this year, was the district 6-3A individual champion, an All-District selection, a 3A Region 1 individual champion, and an All-Region selection. On the boy’s side, Payne Smith took home the award, the only Hawk to win two different MVP awards. Smith was an All-District selection and a District 6-3A individual champion.
