CHRISTOVAL— Four Christoval Cougars athletes have signed to continue competing at the collegiate level.
Christoval's Jaron Slaton, Lia Lozano, Sadie Clark, and Ketcher Joiner signed to keep their athletic dream alive on Friday, May 5, 2023.
Slaton, who made the COVER1 ALL-STAR list, signed to play at Victoria College. Slaton led the Cougar's basketball team in his senior season to a 22-14 overall, 11-3 district record and also led the Cougars with 20 points per game.
Sadie Clark signed with Lubbock Christian University to run track and cross country. Clark's work ethic showed through after tearing her ACL after Christoval's second place showing at state.
Joiner won't be going very far for college as he signed with Hardin-Simmons in Abilene, Texas to play football. Joiner shared Christoval's backfield in 2021 with Josh Fava but still managed to 84 rushes for 465 yards and eight touchdowns. Last year, he rushed for 1,160 yards on 192 carries for 10 touchdowns. Joiner will join teammate Nicolai Nelson on the Cowboys this coming season,
Lozano signed with Wayland Baptist to play softball, a sport Christoval has only had for five years. The Lady Cougars made history this year as this was the first time they have ever made the playoffs.
This makes five Cougars this season to sign with college programs.
