Wednesday evening in what is normally a quiet neighborhood besides traffic noise, the San Angelo Police Department responded to a shots fired call at 2111 Freeland Ave. The call was received at 6:44 p.m.
Upon arrival, officers made contact with a victim who said he was the one at whom the shooters were aiming. He was identified as Eddie Hernandez. After discovering evidence in the form of shell casings on the street and bullet holes in two nearby houses and one vehicle, the area was taped off for investigation.
At the moment the SAPD have one suspect in custody who is being questioned. Fortunately, Hernandez and bystanders were unharmed in what could have been the scene of a homicide.
Sgt. Cade Solsbery, SAPD public information officer, was unable to reveal the identity of the suspect shooter or motive at this time and said that more information will be made available Thursday.

Hopefully this proves to be an isolated incident rather than an indication that, in any enduring sense, the whims of the oil gods have further cursed this small, isolated community with the violent effects of stark economic disparities. It seems that if there was more grunt work to occupy the homeboys' time, they would probably be too busy to resort to this kind of idiocy, but then, you can't hardly dig up sand without it falling into someone's eyes.
