Inclement Weather Causes Delay at the Bobcats Regional Meet

ARLINGTON, TX — The San Angelo Central Bobcats and Lady Cats sent several student-athletes to the Region I Track Meet on Friday, April 28, with the hopes of qualifying for the state meet in Austin. Inclement weather postponed the Day 1 of the Regional Track Meet in Arlington on Friday.

Regionals kicked off without a hitch on Friday morning with the field events. Central’s lone representative, Nevaeh Hearne, put her best foot forward for the Lady Cats. She placed 13th overall with a 34’3.5” leap. Although she did not qualify for State, she still showed that she was one of the best jumpers in Region I. Midland High’s Brielle Bracken placed 10th.

In the 3200-meter run, Emma George made San Angelo proud with her performance today. She completed her race in 12:36. Her time was not quite good enough for the state meet, but what an incredible season for this young lady.

The running events began at 3:30 p.m. The 4x100-meter relay (Colton Gossett, Jordan Weatherspoon, Logan Eubanks, and Tyler Hill) came first, and the Bobcats hoped for a clean race. Unfortunately, a mishandled exchange in between the first and second leg saw the baton hit the track. The ‘Cats failed to post a qualifying time after the fumble. Still, Central’s relay teams remained in high spirits as they still had the 4x200-meter and 4x400-meter relays to go. San Angelo LIVE!’s Ryan Chadwick tracked the four young men down after their race to ask what happened during the failed exchange. Check out the full interview here.

Shortly after the 4x100-meter relay preliminaries finished, inclement weather delayed the Regional Track Meet. Over 2.5 hours passed before the meet could resume, so stay tuned for further results and interviews from the athletes.
