HANOVER, NH — Head Football Coach of Dartmouth College Buddy Teevens suffered spinal cord damage and had his leg amputated after being involved in a bicycle crash back in March, his wife, Kristen, said on Wednesday, April 19.
On his way home from a restaurant with his wife in St. Augustine, Florida, on March 16, Teevens was struck by a pickup truck. According to the original report by Valley News, he was hospitalized due to his injuries. His wife said that he is “experiencing many positive improvements” but is facing serious challenges because of his injuries.

“We would like to thank everyone for the incredible outpouring of love and support for Buddy. It has been nothing short of amazing, and we are so grateful,” she said. “As Buddy navigates through the healing of his injuries, he is experiencing many positive improvements.”
“Unfortunately, as a result of the accident, Buddy’s right leg was amputated due to the severity of the injury. He is alert and communicating with us and ready for transfer to a premier rehab facility to continue healing. Spinal cord injuries are challenging, and if anybody is up for the challenge, it is Buddy. We appreciate your continued respect for our privacy as we navigate this ongoing recovery process as a family.”

Buddy Teevens is the winningest coach in Dartmouth’s history. He first coached the Big Green from 1987 to 1991 but left to pursue coaching in other parts of college football. He returned to Dartmouth College in 2005 and has coached there ever since. He has accumulated a 117-101-2 record in his 23 seasons as head coach.
