SAN ANGELO, TX — The San Angelo Central Lady Cats Softball team hosted the Odessa Permian Lady Panthers for a District 2-6A matchup on Tuesday night, April 18, at the Central Softball Complex at 6:30 p.m. The Lady Cats fell behind early and battled back throughout the game but ultimately fell 9-1.
After a scoreless first inning, the Lady Panthers fired their bats up in the top of the second. The Lady Cats played defense well when the ball came into their vicinity, but Permian did a brilliant job at hitting the ball into the areas the Lady Cats could not reach. With two outs on the board, Permian loaded the bases. Unfortunately for Central, a walk put the Lady Panthers up 1-0 before two singles into shallow left field increased that advantage to 3-0.
The Lady Cats battled back in the 3rd inning. McKenna McMillan doubled to score Addison Dickerson to get back into the game, but Permian’s bats never cooled down. Central fell to Permian 9-1.
The ladies move to 17-10-1 on the season and 4-5 in district play. They remain in 4th place and cling to that final playoff spot, moving into the final game of their regular season. They need a win to cement that playoff berth.
Greysen Collins continues to lead Central’s offense this season. She leads the team with a .594 batting average, a .632 on-base percentage, and a .898 slugging percentage.
The Lady Cats host the Frenship Lady Tigers in a pivotal district matchup on Friday, April 21, in San Angelo at 6:30 p.m.
