2-Time Super Bowl Champ Signs with Cowboys

ARLINGTON— The Dallas Cowboys have added two more pieces in an unusually active free agency season.

The Dallas Cowboys have returned to their old ways of being active in free agency. Over the past few seasons, they have sat back and re-signed their own players, but usually haven’t been very aggressive in signing free agents. This offseason has been very different.

Dallas has added two big pieces in cornerback Stephon Gilmore and receiver Brandin Cooks. They also brought back running backs Tony Pollard and Rico Dowdle, backup quarterback Cooper Rush, offensive tackle Terence Steele, defensive backs Donovan Wilson and CJ Goodwin, and former first round pick Leighton Vander Esch.

Today, they signed two-time Super Bowl Champion running back Ronald Jones and interior offensive lineman Chuma Edoga.

Jones, a former second round pick from the 2018 NFL Draft, was taken by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and also spent time with Kansas City. Over his career, Jones has 505 carries, 2,244 yards, and 19 touchdowns and has won two Super Bowls. Adding Jones fills a need on the offense and potentially give the Cowboys a better chance at drafting the best player available in the 2023 NFL Draft.

The Cowboys also added offensive lineman Chuma Edoga, who was a New York Jets second round pick in 2019. Edoga adds depth to the offensive line that is returning Zack Martin, Tyron Smith, Tyler Smith, Tyler Biadiaz, and Terence Steele. The Cowboys did lose interior lineman Conner McGovern to the Buffalo Bills.

As far as losing players to other teams, pass catchers Noah Brown and Dalton Schultz both signed with the Houston Texans. Linebacker Luke Gifford signed with the Tennessee Titans and Ezekiel Elliott, who was released last week, has not signed with a team as of yet.

Dallas has filled a lot of needs in this free agency and outside of a kicker and possible a linebacker, the Cowboys will go into the upcoming draft looking for the best player to help them win now.

Looking at the Dallas Day, where teams can bring in local players, they have looked at TCU’s lineman Alan Ali, cornerback Tre’Vious Hodges-Tomlinson, who is family to former pro running back LaDainian Tomlinson, and Dee Winters. They have also looked at Illinois defensive lineman Calvin Avery, Oklahoma Baptist Keilahn Harris, Kansas State receiver Malik Knowles, and Oklahoma punter Michael Turk.

The media has already linked the Cowboys to Texas running back Bijan Robinson and Utah tight end Dalton Kincaid.
