SAN ANGELO, TX — The San Angelo Central Bobcats travel to Stanton on Thursday, Feb. 16, to participate in a play-in tournament to decide the third and fourth seeds in District 2-6A for the playoffs.
The ‘Cats fell to Odessa High 50-48 on Tuesday, Feb. 14, when they battled for the second seed. The loss left Central tied for third place (5-5) with Midland High and Odessa Permian. Only four teams make the playoffs this year, and the Little Southwest Conference did an excellent job at savaging each other’s records all season.
The Bobcats have one win and one loss to both Permian and Midland High so far this year, and the parity of this league required a few extra games to decide supremacy. Central plays Odessa Permian tonight at 6 p.m. for their first game, and the winner will travel back to Stanton tomorrow to play Midland High. If Midland loses the matchup tomorrow, the fourth-place game will be played on Saturday in Stanton.
The Bobcats need at least one more win to make the playoffs, and they’ve proven that they can beat both the Panthers and the Bulldogs. Kollin Allbright had an excellent game against Odessa High but did not catch fire until the second half. Central needs to get him going early against Permian for the ‘Cats' best chance to win the game.
