SAN ANGELO, TX – La Esperanza has officially broken ground on the new clinic that will replace the old roller rink on Sherwood way.
The ground breaking included staff from La Esperanza, engineers from KFW architects, leaders with the San Angelo Chamber of Commerce, and more. CEO of La Esperanza Dean Munn thanked the crowd for all the help and expressed his enthusiasm for the future.
The Rink, which closed its doors in 2019, will now be the administrative building as well as a clinic. The building is 9,000 square feet which will house six adult primary exam rooms and six pediatric and behavioral health rooms.
"The idea here is visibility for one with Sherwood way. Also we have a strong presence on the southside, northside, all in the east along the Chadbourne corridor. Yet we're not represented here," said Munn. "This is our effort to expand our services to the approximately 79 percent of those folks out there that are low income and aren't using our services at this point in time. The mission is mighty and we're excited about it."
No official completion date has been set yet at this time but expect crews to begin demolition work soon. Munn confirmed at the end of the ceremony that the wall of the rink will stay up but the putt putt course outside had to go.
