Midwinter Heat Wave & Blustery Conditions Prompt Another Wildfire Danger Advisory for Wednesday

SAN ANGELO – A midwinter heat wave has engulfed West Texas and a Pacific frontal system will blow through Wednesday increasing winds and creating extreme wildfire conditions.  

The National Weather Service office in San Angelo has issued a Fire Weather Watch for the Concho Valley from noon until 8 p.m. Wednesday.  

Winds will increase from the west with the passage of the frontal system to 15 to 30 mpg with gusts to 40 mph.  The winds will combine with very low humidity and extremely dry fuels to create dangerous wildfire conditions.  

All outdoor activities that could cause a spark or a flame of any kind should be avoided at the risk of starting a wildfire that could quickly burn out of control.  

A Fire Weather Watch means that there is the potential for critical fire weather conditions. The Fire Weather Watch could be upgraded to a Red Flag Warning if conditions deteriorate further.
