SAN ANGELO – A warm and dry air mass in place across West Texas Monday and Tuesday will create elevated wildfire danger conditions and residents should be very careful with any outdoor burning.
Meteorologists with the National Weather Service office in San Angelo say strong, gusty westerly winds will combine with low humidity or a lack of moisture in the air to create conditions where wildfires could rapidly spread out of control. Temperatures region wide will reach the mid 70s Monday and Tuesday afternoon with relative humidity values in the teens.
Wednesday, near critical to critical fire weather conditions are possible as well due to those strong westerly winds and dry conditions. Temperatures will cool off starting Wednesday night with the passage of a Pacific cold front.
A slight chance of rain makes its way back into the forecast for Saturday.
Experts say any outdoor burning comes with an elevated risk Monday through Wednesday.
On a related note, last Tuesday, Tom Green County Commissioners declined to enact a Burn Ban because conditions had not reached the required criteria. They will consider instating a burn ban on during their regular meeting Tuesday.
