WATCH: No. 2 Irion County Downs Miles in Pre-District Matchup

 

MILES, TX — The Miles Bulldogs fell to the 1A No. 2 Irion County Hornets 45-41 on Friday, December 6, 2022.

The Miles Bulldogs got out to an early lead, 19-10, in the first quarter. Shelton Petry led the team in the opening frame with six points, followed by Carson Ellison with five. Shots weren’t really falling in the beginning for the Hornets, who were down 28-20 at halftime.

The Hornets stayed with it, but Miles stood strong in the third quarter, with both teams scoring 11 points. The real difference came in the last frame, where the Hornets outscored the Bulldogs 14-2. Irion County displayed tough defensive prowess down the stretch to give them the opportunity to take the lead with less than five minutes to go. Irion County won, 45-42.

After the game, Coach Morrow gave his thoughts on his team's performance against the Bulldogs.

Irion County's Trevin Coffell stood out with 20 points, followed by Fred Mayberry with 13. Harrison and Morrow scored seven and five, respectively.

Miles’ Petry led the team with 12 points, followed by Ellison’s 10. His brother, Cooper Petry, came in with nine points, and Book scored eight.

The Miles Bulldogs have the Brady Bulldogs at home, and the 1A No. 2 Irion County Hornets host the Lake View Chiefs on Tuesday, January 10, 2022.
