SAN ANGELO – Newly sworn-in Tom Green County Judge Lane Carter and Commissioner Pct. 4 Shawn Nanny presided a their first official meeting Tuesday morning with the rest of the Commissioners Court after being sworn-in to four year terms on Sunday, Jan. 1, 2023.
The new Tom Green County Commissioners Court now consists of Commissioners Ralph Hoelscher, Sammy Farmer, Rick Bacon and newly elected Commissioner Shawn Nanny and Judge Lane Carter.
Watch as Judge Carter gavels in the first Commissioners Court Hearing as County Judge:
When the official court proceeding got down to business, Commissioners designated several alternative locations where District Court hearings could be held.
The Commissioners Court designated the following locations as alternatives: the Sugg Community Room in the Stephens Central Library, the Concho Valley CSCD facility, the McNease Convention Center, the Murphy Performance Hall and the SAPAC Performing Arts Center.
District Judge Jay Weatherby told the court that there are seven judges and only two functioning courtrooms at the present time and there are several Capital Murder trials on the docket now which will require large court space for jury pools necessary for those types of trials.
Judge Carter also administered the oath of office to Commissioner Sammy Farmer who was not able to attend the swearing-in ceremony on Sunday. And a professional photographer took the official photo of the new commissioners court.
The Tom Green County Commissioners Court meets every Tuesday in the Commissioners Court Meeting room on the second floor of the Keyes building downtown.
