LUBBOCK, TX —The TLCA Eagles Boys and Girls participated in the Caprock Classic in Lubbock last weekend, Dec. 29-31. The Eagles advanced far enough in the winner's bracket to earn 4th place, while the Lady Eagles gained valuable experience as they prepare for their district.

The Eagles played against an Australian national team on Dec. 29. They landed in Los Angeles before the tournament, but their flight to Texas was canceled. Instead of canceling their trip, the Australians hopped on a bus and took the 22-hour bus ride to Lubbock. That's definitely one way to see the American West.
Both teams met at half court to exchange gifts in a long-standing tradition of foreign teams playing in the tournament. The game commenced, and the Eagles won a hard-earned victory, 63-53. Drew Sherril led TLCA with 27 points.
Later in the day, on Dec. 29, TLCA defeated Whitharrel 56-20. Ivan Oviedo led the Eagles with 16 points.
In game three, Abilene Christian beat the Eagles 51-50. The loss moved TLCA into the loser's bracket of the tournament. Drew Sherril led the Eagles with 15 points.
TLCA then beat Denver City 59-55 to enter the third-place game but fell again to Abilene Christian 72-66. The Eagles placed 4th in the Lubbock Caprock Tournament.

TLCA LADY EAGLES
The Lady Eagles played in the same tournament over the weekend. Although they played hard every single game, the Lady Eagles went 0-4. TLCA almost beat Symer and Reagan County but fell in the end. Head Coach Mylin Goodloe knew the competition in this tournament was fierce but felt the lessons learned and tempering received prepared the ladies for district play.
"We entered the tournament knowing that we would be playing some tough competition. I am proud of the way the girls responded, playing several close games and fighting until the final second. We gained some valuable knowledge and brought that home with us as we look to keep on fighting this season," she said.
The Lady Eagles (2-12) play an all-important district game against the Grape Creek Eagles (2-11) on Tuesday, Jan. 3, at 4 p.m. in Grape Creek.
