A short thirty-minute reception was held as part of the celebration when everyone enjoyed cake and punch and the words “good luck” and “congratulations" could be heard throughout the chambers.
Don Vardeman said that his wife was happier about him leaving the council than he was. He thanked council and city employees for all of their hard work and dedication. After which he ushered his successor into the council chair between Councilwomen Elizabeth Grindstaff and Charlotte Farmer.
This could be the last of two-year terms for council members as the city charter is up for some changes that would give council memebers an extended term of four years.
