PREVIEW: High Powered Offenses Meet Up in Central Regular Season Finale

WOLFFORTH – The San Angelo Central Bobcats are looking to end the regular season on a positive note and have the Frenship Tigers standing in their way.

The Bobcats are coming off a loss to the Permian Panthers 43-31 after being up 31-28 at halftime. The Tigers just beat the Odessa Bronchos 49-42. Frenship jumped out to a 27-14 lead in the first quarter only to watch Odessa score three unanswered touchdowns before halftime. If not for a 16-yard touchdown with about three minutes left in the game, it would’ve gone to overtime.

Both of these teams are similar in that they can score from anywhere on the field. Bobcat quarterback Tyler Hill, who won the “Built Ford Tough Texas High School Football Player of the Week’’ honor last week, has gone 137-224 for 1,932 yards, 19 touchdowns, and five interceptions. Hill has a 61% completion percentage and also has taken 98 carries for 1,093 yards and 15 scores.

Central’s three running backs have had good seasons as Aiden Barron, Tyree Brawley, and Jayvion Robinson have rushed for 892 yards and 10 touchdowns combined. The Bobcats have averaged 225.6 rush yards per game and have a total of 2,030 yards and 26 rushing scores. A big part of that is the offensive line.

The weapons out wide have had good seasons as well, Jacob English, who had 141 yards and two touchdowns against Permian, has 22 catches for 488 yards and eight touchdowns. While English is the go-to guy, Tyler Walker, is a close second with 21 receptions for 378 yards and one touchdown. Ben Imler, Jacob Gallegos, Keevon Rice, and Cedrick Fuentes have picked up the slack and totaled 805 yards and nine scores.

Defensively, Darius Floyd is the standout with 115 tackles, eight for loss, four sacks, two caused fumbles, and one fumble recovery. Evan Arnold is a distant second with 64 tackles five for loss, and two sacks. Andrew Gonzalez and James Burney has three and two sacks respectively and Luke Gould leads the way with three of the Bobcat’s seven interceptions.

Frenship has a super charged, high-powered offense that teams like Legacy and Permian had trouble difficulty figuring out. The Tigers put up over 40 points, (49 and 41) on the Rebels and Panthers. Against Mojo, Hutcheson went 25-36 for 409 yards and four touchdowns and shredded the Rebels throwing 24-28 for 439 yards and six scores.

If Central even wants a chance at winning, they need to limit this passing attack. The Tiger’s running game produced 345 rushing yards and seven touchdowns over their district schedule so far. They’ve put up 1,597 passing yards and 19 touchdowns in district.

Frenship’s Hudson Hutcheson has had a tremendous year throwing 209-284, a 74% completion percentage, for 2,956 yards, 30 touchdowns, and six interceptions. The junior quarterback has put up 442 rushing yards and nine touchdowns.

Hutcheson has three guys out wide who are deadly with the ball in their hands. Tate Beeles has 50 receptions for 961 yards and 13 touchdowns. The quarterback’s cousin, Landon Hutcheson has taken 74 receptions for 767 yards and four scores and sophomore Leyton Stone has 53 catches for 881 yards and 11 scores. Overall, the Tiger’s receiving corps has taken 211 receptions for 2,979 yards for 32 touchdowns.

Hud Hutcheson leads the backs with 442 rushing yards and nine scores and Landon has 300 yards for six touchdowns. Sebastian Dominguez is third with 39 rushes for 156 yards and three touchdowns.

The Tiger’s defense doesn’t have anyone standing out in tackles, but Elyas Soliz has 57 tackles and two interceptions this season. Benjamin Rios (2), Stone (1), and Santiago Sanchez (1) have the other interceptions for the Tigers. Kobe Ayers leads the team with five sacks, Caydin Blakely has four, Brayden Cook has three, Caden Spano has two, and three players have one each.

This game could be a high scoring affair with the receivers featured in this one. Hill and Hutcheson have both had incredible seasons and their respective teams go as they go. If the Bobcat defense can limit the Tiger’s passing attack and the Bobcat line can get things going on the ground, they can absolutely win. Central will have to be mistake free as the Tiger’s capitalize on fumbles.
