Can the #2 Angelo State Rams Keep the Undefeated Season Alive?

SAN ANGELO, TX – The only two remaining undefeated teams in the Lone Star Conference square off on Saturday as the No. 2 ranked Angelo State hosts No. 15 Texas A&M – Kingsville on Homecoming night.

Gates will open at 4:30 p.m., and fans are encouraged to get to the stadium early to avoid long ticket lines.

RAMS RIDE PAST MUSTANGS:

The Rams scored early and often last week against Western New Mexico, totaling 521 yards of offense in the 52-13 win over the Mustangs. Quarterback Zach Bronkhorst finished with three passing touchdowns in the game while Nate Omayebu III collected 155 yards on the ground. ASU's defense collected two sacks on the day while holding WNMU to -11 yards rushing.

While the Javelinas lead the all-time series, the Rams have been in control in recent history, winning the last eight straight meetings. In last year's matchup, the Rams jumped out to a quick 21-0 lead before winning 58-19 on the road.

• TAMUK enters the weekend with a perfect 7-0 record on the year, going 5-0 in conference play.
• The Javelinas' biggest win of the season came against West Texas A&M on the road, winning 31-24 in the first LSC game of the year.
• TAMUK opened the year with two non-Division II games, defeating North American 60-0 before beating Sul Ross 35-14.
• The Javelinas have won their last two games by a total of seven points, defeating Western New Mexico 21-17 and UT Permian Basin 13-10.
• The Javelinas have scored the second-highest average in the LSC with 34.0 points per game while allowing the lowest point total at 11.7. They also rank third in total offensive yards with 426.3 and second in yards allowed at 272.3.
• TAMUK's defense has collected the second most interceptions in the conference with 11 so far this season.
• Christian Anderson is averaging the third most rushing yards per game in the LSC with 96.1 yards per game.
• The Javelinas are the third most penalized team in the conference with 50 penalties this season.

MAKING HISTORY - The Rams moved up once again in the latest AFCA Division II Top 25 poll, reaching the highest ranking in program history.

BALL HAWKIN' - The Rams' secondary has tallied a league-high 12 interceptions on the year while Andrew Pitts leads the LSC with five interceptions and ranks third in the country in interceptions per game (0.7).
 
DOMINATING DEFENSIVELY - After holding the Mustangs to under 120 yards of total offense, the Rams rank seventh in Division II in total defense, holding opponents to 230.9 yards per game. ASU also ranks third in DII in interceptions (12) and 16th in sacks (23).
 
QUICK HITS:

• Nate Omayebu III is the leading rusher for the LSC with 706 yards on the season which ranks 18th in the country.
• Bronkhorst leads the LSC in passing yards with 1,734 yards this season and is second in touchdowns with 14. He has the highest efficiency rating in the conference at 136.8.
• Noah Massey is sixth in the conference in receiving yards at 408 on 27 catches.
• Micah Flowers has collected the 10th most total tackles at 45.
• Daron Allman is third in the LSC in tackles for loss this season with eight and ranks third in total sacks with five.
