2 People Killed, 3 Injured in 3 Vehicle Crash Near Winters Thursday

WINTERS – Two people died and three others were seriously injured in a three vehicle crash south of Winters on US-83 Thursday.

According to information from Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Marc Couch, the crash involved a Volvo 18-wheeler, a 2009 Ford pickup and a 2017 Chevrolet Malibu passenger car.

According to the DPS investigation, the F-150 was northbound 4.5 miles south of Winters on US-83 while the 18-wheeler and the Malibu were heading south around 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the same location.

The Ford pickup was driven by 74-year-old Roland Presley of Winters.  His vehicle crossed the center stripe crashing into the 18-wheeler then into the Malibu.  Presley was killed in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace David Sellers. Presley was not wearing a seatbelt.

43-year-old Jeffrey Lenk Stewart of Ballinger was driving the Malibu.  He was also killed in the crash and pronounced dead at the scene by J.P. Sellers.  Stewart was not wearing a seatbelt.

53-year-old Michael Dewayne Lochmiller of Las Vegas, NV was driving the 18-wheeler and was wearing his seatbelt.  He was uninjured.

All three passengers in the Malibu were wearing their seatbelts and suffered serious injuries in the crash.  The DPS has identified them as 38-year-old Anita Michelle New of Ballinger, 19-year-old Nicole Caret of Ballinger, and an unnamed 14-year-old juvenile from Ballinger.  They were transported to Shannon Medical Center in San Angelo.

The road conditions were clear and dry at the time of the crash at 1:30 p.m. Thursday afternoon.

Editor's note:  San Angelo Live! was contacted on Oct. 3, 2022 about this crash.  The voicemail said Jeffery Stewart was wearing a seatbelt and that someone at the scene disconnected his seatbelt prior to the arrival of DPS troopers and paramedics.  That information has not been confirmed by investigating officials.
