The San Angelo Area Foundation (SAAF) created an easy way to collect donations for area charities over a 24-hour period. Until 11:59p.m. tonight you can donate to over 80 charity organizations in San Angelo and surrounding areas without mailing an envelope or even leaving your couch via the internet at sanangelogives.org.
Participating nonprofits and donors can track donations pledged to their organizations throughout the day. All donations will be processed through the website, or if you are unable to access the internet, you can call 325-947-7071 to make donations by phone.
SAAF has worked with local donors and corporations to secure pro-rated matching funds and prize money exceeding $100,000. The prize money is made up of added monetary bonuses throughout the day that the foundation will be giving to drive donations up across the board. There will be key times to donate to your favorite local non-profit organizations (NPO) in order for them to score even more money for their cause. Each NPO is eligible to receive more than one participation prize money award.
The schedule for prize money is as follows:
Early, Early Bird: NPO who receives the 1st donation of the day / $250
Early Bird: NPO with the most unique donors between midnight and 6 a.m. / $500
Lucky 250: NPO that receives the #250th donation of the day / $250
10X10: The 1st NPO to receive 10, $100 donations between 8 a.m.-10 a.m. / $1000
Lunch Special: NPO with the most unique donors between noon -1 p.m. / $500
Golden Ticket: 1 NPO will be randomly drawn at 3 p.m. / $500
Happy Hour: NPO with the most dollars raised between 5 p.m.-6 p.m. / $500
Night Owl: NPO with the most unique donors between 10 p.m.-11 p.m. / $500
Lucky 1000: NPO that receives the #1000th donation of the day / $1000
Minute to Win It: NPO who raises the most dollars in a specific 30-minute time frame (Time Frame TBA on May 5th) / $1000
New to You: NPO who has the most "new" donors (donors self-indicate) / $250
Last Call: NPO who receives the last donation of the day / $250
For the purposes of awarding prizes, a unique donor is one individual or corporation. Multiple donations from one donor to the same nonprofit will count as one unique donor. The prize money is made possible by supporting sponsors: Sonora Bank, AEP Texas, Foster Communications, Green's Grocery & Café, Republic Services, Atmos Energy, Texas Bank and The Bank & Trust.
Since the San Angelo Health Foundation launched the San Angelo Area Foundation in 2002, the foundation has received more than $150 million in gifts and has granted over $60 million in grants. Their goal is to promote philanthropic giving in San Angelo and surrounding areas.
According to the website, at the completion of San Angelo Gives, the San Angelo Area Foundation will determine each nonprofits proportionate share of the pro-rated matching funds by dividing the total amount each charity raises by the total amount of the donations to all participating nonprofits. This amount will then be multiplied by the total amount of the dollars in the incentive pool. The match is not a dollar-for-dollar match and will be determined after all of the donations are received.
An example of this would be that the SAAF secures $100,000 in amplification dollars, and the total raised during the day is $500,000 and NPO #1 raises $25,000 or 5 percent of the total of the day, NPO #1 will receive an amplification of $5,000. All of the donations received on the day of giving will be dispersed on May 31. If you wish, SAAF will provide nonprofits with the contact information of all donors to their organization and the amount donated unless the donor asks to remain anonymous. Minimum donations of $10 will be accepted, and there is no cap on the maximum amount you can donate. Keep in mind that donations will be amplified and the designated nonprofit will receive more funding than was actually donated.
