SAN ANGELO – A Rowena man has been arrested after the violent kidnapping a woman from a Tom Green County home Monday afternoon.
According to law enforcement reports, on August 15, 2022, at 4:00 p.m., San Angelo Police Dispatch received a 911 call from a woman stating, “Help me. Help me. He’s trying to kill me.” After that, the phone call disconnected. Dispatch was able to locate the origin of the call to a residence in the 1000 block of Mahon Ave. in rural Tom Green County.
When deputies arrived, they found a male witness bleeding from injuries to his face. According to the man, an unknown suspect entered the residence, assaulted him, and took the female victim. The man said the suspect was driving a Red Kia Rio passenger car with a white hood then he was transported to Shannon for treatment.
At the Shannon Emergency Room, the investigator spoke with the man who alleged that the suspect was “Farmer John” or Jonathan Staker. The man stated that Staker had been actively searching for the victim. Staker entered the man’s residence, assaulted him, and took the victim.
Staker entered the residence through a back window and yelled “hello”. The man and the victim walked through the residence and then the man entered the hallway. Staker lunged at him and began punching him about 10 times and threw him into a wall. After that, Staker threw the man outside the residence and allegedly told him if he were to come back, he would kill him.
The man witnessed Staker assaulted the victim by punching her and pushing her to the floor inside the residence. Staker then put the victim in his Red Kia Rio and drove off. The man believed Staker was taking the victim to a residence in Rowena, Texas.
The investigator then spoke with a sergeant investigator who stated he spoke with the female victim via phone. The sergeant said he believed the victim was in imminent danger due to the sound of her voice but was able to verify that she was at a residence in Rowena, Texas with Staker.
At 7:05 p.m., the sergeant investigator received a notification that the victim was at a Stripes Convenience store in Miles, Texas. When the investigator arrived, he found the victim safe.
The victim appeared distraught and scared. She stated she was with the male witness when Staker arrived. He yelled at her to get into his vehicle, but she refused. Staker allegedly started assaulting the witness then punched her in the face.
She stated she did call 911 prior to the assault and attempted to put her phone inside her purse with it on but it disconnected. Shortly after leaving the residence on Mahon Avenue, she tried to access her cell phone, but Staker allegedly took it from her and threw it out the window.
Staker was arrested and booked into the Tom Green County Detention Facility on August 17, 2022 and has a $500,000 bond.
