SAN ANGELO - Last week, Tip-a-Cop in San Angelo raised over $5,000 for the Special Olympics.
On July 26 and 28, the San Angelo Police Department partnered with Texas Roadhouse to raise money for the Special Olympics.
Officer Hernandez with the San Angelo Police Department said Thursday night, “Tonight was our second night to participate with the Special Olympics. We had a couple of officers come out and help raise money for the Special Olympics.”
On Tuesday, Tip-a-Cop raised just over $3,000 and on Thursday just over $2,500 for a total of approximately $5,500.
Tip-a-Cop is usually only one night but for SAPD, they decided to do two nights.
“It’s just not something we’ve done in the past,” Officer Hernandez said, “We always try to change it up and it was something the Special Olympics asked us to do. So, this year we did two nights, and we will see what’s in store for next year.”
The San Angelo Police Department also plans on continuing Tip-a-Cop in the future.
Hernandez said, “We really appreciate the Special Olympics allowing the police department to come out and help them out and it’s something we will continue to do in San Angelo.”
