Kids Eat FREE! Program Has 8 Locations is San Angelo

SAN ANGELO – Kids Eat FREE!, a program of the Texas Hunger Initiative - San Angelo Region, is back this year with eight different locations throughout San Angelo where children 18 years of age or younger and their accompanying parent, guardian, or other caregiver will be provided a hot lunch at no cost. Since 2010, the program has helped filled the gap for meal assistance between when school summer feeding programs end, and the new school year begins.

In our own community, 1 in 4 families with children have been unable to buy food sometime within the past 12 months.  With help from local churches, nonprofits, and individuals, the Kids Eat FREE! Program has provided over 197,884 meals to the area’s children as well as another 42,697 meals to parents or caregivers who have accompanied them to these locations.  There are no qualifiers for the program other than the child must be 18 years of age or younger.

In addition to the meals that will be provided Mondays through Fridays in July and August, the Concho Valley Food Bank will be supplying bags of non-perishable foods that will go home with families each Friday to help supply food for the weekend.  Children will participate in a variety of free crafts, games, and other activities with something different each day, including surprise “guests”.  Children can also check books out each week and take one home to keep at the end of the program. Caregivers, parents, and guardians will receive helpful information and additional resources they can use for their families.
