SAN ANGELO – Tom Green County Judge Steve Floyd Declared a Disaster Friday banning all outdoor burning and the "...sale, use and discharge of all fireworks in Tom Green County..."
According to information from Judge Floyd's office, the Gov. Abbott declared Tom Green County a wildfire disaster on April 1, 2022, the U.S. Drought Monitor shows 2022 is the 5th driest year in 128 years, and the KBDI index used by the Texas A&M Forest Service to determine drought and fire conditions today reached 602 and is still climbing. The Threshold for Counties to ban outdoor burning is a KBDI index of 575.
The ban on outdoor burning allows commercial fireworks displays and outdoor cooking with propane or natural gas grills.
The Disaster Declaration for Tom Green County went into effect at 1:47 p.m. Friday and will continue "...for as long as such conditions exist..."
Violating the ban on fireworks or burning is a misdemeanor with a fine of up to $1,000.

This is really sad. On one hand I feel better for all the scared pets. However, going to be a really boring 4th.
