SAN ANGELO – Hot and dry conditions persist across West Texas Tuesday morning with a string of 100 degree days continuing and no rain in sight. The National Weather Service office in San Angelo has issued a Rangeland Fire Danger statement for all of West Central Texas.
Elevated fire weather conditions are expected today across the Big Country, the Concho Valley and the northwest Hill Country. That means that conditions are favorable for the spread of wildfires across the region.
The Rangeland Fire Danger statement is in effect Tuesday from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m because relative humidities will range from 20 to 25 percent with south winds sustained at 15 to 25 mph with gusts over 30 mph and temperatures hovering around 100 degrees. In addition, fuels are critically dry.
Outdoor burning and all activities that could produce a spark are greatly discouraged. Conditions are favorable for the development of wind-driven wildfires.
This is a serious weather situation and residents are urged to check regularly on weather conditions.
