CARY, N.C. – The Angelo State University men's baseball team advanced to the next round in the National Championship in Cary, N.C. Sunday.
According to ASU sports, the fifth-seeded Angelo State baseball team opened day two of the NCAA Division II Baseball National Championship with a win over fourth-seeded Southern New Hampshire, winning 7-4 on Sunday at the USA National Training Complex.
The Rams tally their 51st win of the season as they defeat the Penmen in their first meeting in program history.
ASU struck first as Justin Lee doubled to right field to score Koby Kelton to take a 1-0 lead in the first inning.
SNHU did all their damage in the second inning, hitting back-to-back home runs including a three-run shot to left field.
In the third inning, Jordan Williams singled to left field to score two more runs before Lee tied the game 4-4 on an error.
Kyle Moseley picked up his fifth win of the season as he pitched 5 1/3 innings in relief while not giving up a single hit. Caron Childers closed out the game with two hits in 2 2/3 innings while collecting his third save on the year.
In the sixth inning, the Rams took the lead on another error by the Penmen before Justin Harris laid down a bunt single down the third base line to score Thomas Cain.
Williams added another run for the Rams in the ninth, singling to left field to bring home Aaron Walters. Williams finished with three RBIs while going 2-for-4 at the plate.
The Rams will advance to the winner's bracket of the tournament, facing the winner between No. 1 North Greenville and No. 8 West Chester on Tuesday, June 7 at 6 p.m. EST.
