HOBBS, NM – A Hobbs, NM woman was hospitalized Saturday after being viciously attacked by a pack of dogs.
According to reports, Hobbs police responded at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday to a call regarding five dangerous dogs. When officers arrived, they found ripped clothing and blood in the street but no victim.
A 46-year-old woman was later found after police talked with witnesses and she was taken to the hospital. The victim claimed she was walking down the street when she was attacked by five pit bull dogs. She defended herself with a knife and when police arrived, one dog was dead, and another had to be put down due to the extent of its injuries.
The dog’s owner, Ricardo Garcia, claimed the dogs dug under a fence and he had no idea the dogs had gotten out.
Garcia did surrender the rights to the dogs, which will be euthanized following a quarantine period mandated by the state. Garcia was cited for four counts of animals running at large, three counts of no animal license and three counts of not having proof of rabies vaccinations for the dogs.
Garcia had already been cited for having an animal running at large earlier this month.
