City Approves $1.3 Million Dollar Water Main Project

The city council passed a few things on the consent agenda yesterday at the McNease Convention Center; here’s a rundown in case you missed it.

Residents that have been delinquent in payment for more than 180 days living in the Lake Nasworthy Addition were given a 30-day notice on Feb.13  to vacate the property, opening up some real estate at the lake.

The Street and Bridge Department will be getting two 12-yard dump trucks to replace equipment that has exceeded its operational life and is inadequate to perform safely. The $315,000 purchase will include the option to purchase an additional unit at a later date. The city awarded the bid to a local business, Lonestar Truck DBA Corley Frieghtliner.

Cast iron water mains stretching 10,400 feet will be replaced under a contract with Darnell Construction, LLC for $1,320,963.27 funded by the Capital Improvement Plan. Mains will be replaced at Sherwood Way on the access road from east of Clare Drive to Avenue N, Austin Street from W. Avenue N to W. Avenue J, W. Avenue L from Paseo De Vaca to Austin Street, E. Harris Avenue from Chadbourne Street to Main Street, Sellers Street from Paint Rock Road to the alley north of Norma Street, Norma Street from Sellers to Wanda & Wanda Street from Norma St. to Belaire Ave.  There is no word of when these projects will begin at this time. Darnell Construction, LLC is a local business.

AmeriCorps will be in San Angelo from April 24-July 14 to tackle some repair projects around the city. A crew of 12 young adults will be lodged at Fort Concho during the time.

The crew will work on the porch, column and fascia board replacements and painting several buildings where needed at the fort. The fence and buildings at the River Stage will be painted, and the Municipal Pool and poolhouse will get a thorough cleaning in preparation for summer. Maintenance of the nature trails and painting of several thousand feet of pipe railing at the lake parks, including an inventory of trees in the park and other small tasks will be accomplished. This will be the first time the city has participated in this type of program with AmeriCorps.

Just in case you are worried about ebola and being prepared, the city will receive a grant from the Texas Department of State Health Services Hazards/Public Health in the amount of $21,480. The funding is meant to carry out the Centers for Disease Control Public Health Emergency Preparedness goals associated with ebola preparedness and response activities.
