Final 4 Days of Early Voting for the March Primary Are Underway

SAN ANGELO – The final four days of early voting for the March 1, 2022 Primary election in Texas are underway today.

There are several local contested races on the Republican ballot for voters to decide and Friday is the final day of early voting before the primary election next Tuesday.

The voting process is new this election cycle because of the new election integrity law passed by the Texas Legislature following the 2020 Presidential election.

There are extra steps to cast a ballot in early voting.  First, voters present a valid form of identification and select a party primary in which to vote.  There is a Republican Primary and an Democratic Primary and they have separate ballots as they have in each primary election.

Voters are then given a computer generated label which they present to a poll worker. That poll worker generates a unique code and then hands the voter a blank ballot and the code on a slip of paper.

Once a voter has the blank ballot and code, they proceed to a touch screen voting machine.  The voter then inserts the blank ballot into the machine.  Using the touch screen, the voter then makes his or her selection in each race.

The ballot begins with national races followed by statewide races then local county races.  The ballot ends with non-binding party propositions.

After the voter has made his or her selections on the voting machine and verified the choices, the voter prints the ballot.

The voting machine then prints the choices on the ballot and the voter can once again ensure the selections are correct in each race.

Once the ballot is printed and the voter is satisfied, the voter then takes the printed ballot to a ballot counting machine.  The voter then inserts the marked ballot into the counting machine and the voting process is complete.

There are elections office officials on hand at every stage to assist voters if necessary.
