The Dallas Cowboys have Won the NFC East, Aim at 1 Seed in Playoff Race

ARLINGTON, TX- Before ever stepping on the field to square off against the Washington Football Team, the Dallas Cowboys won the NFC East title.

The Cowboys, now 11-4, were officially declared the NFC East Champs when the Las Vegas Raiders beat the Denver Broncos giving the Cowboys strength-of-victory over the Philadelphia Eagles.

On Thursday night, the Cowboys clinched a playoff spot when the Tennessee Titans beat the San Francisco 49ers, 20-17.

Getting a spot in the playoffs and winning the NFC East wasn’t enough for the Cowboys as they beat up on the Washington Football Team 56-14 causing havoc for the Football Team’s defense on and off the field.

Washington’s first offensive play was a Trevon Diggs interception and before the 1st quarter was over, the score 21-0, thanks to the Diggs interception leading to an Ezekiel Elliott touchdown, then a Dalton Schultz touchdown, then a DeMarcus Lawrence interception returned for a touchdown.

Washington could not get it together all night and frustrations boiled over on the sidelines for the Football Team’s defensive line on their heated benched, brought into a domed environment, as defensive lineman pointed fingers and threw punches at teammates.

The Cowboys put it on Washington all night and the offense looked like it did when the season started. Dak Prescott went 28-39 for 330 yard, and 4 touchdowns. Prescott became the only quarterback to throw a touchdown passes to a running back, wide receiver, tight end, and an eligible offensive lineman.

The Cowboys shut Dak down in the second half and replaced him with backup Cooper Rush as there was no reason to keep risking his health.

The defense also got to work as Washington’s quarterback Taylor Heinicke throw his first pass to the Cowboys’ Trevon Diggs, who now is tied with Everson Walls for most interceptions in a single season for the Cowboys. It would be hard not to mention that the single season interception record is 14.

DeMarcus Lawrence got into the action as well, batting a pass to himself and returning it for a touchdown.

Even the special teams and rookies got into the mix when running back Corey Clement blocked a punt that rookie defensive lineman Chauncey Golston scooped up and strolled into the end zone. Rookie phenom Micah Parsons got another sack to bring his total up to 13 so far on the season and has probably locked up the defensive rookie of the year award.

Backup quarterback Cooper Rush threw a touchdown pass to free agent signee Malik Turner who stretched into the endzone for the score.

Everything seemed to click for the Cowboys on Sunday Night Football and locking up the NFC East is great for Dallas fans, but since the playoff expansion, only one team gets a first round bye week in the playoffs. With 2 more games, one in the desert against the reeling Arizona Cardinals, and one against the division rival Eagles, the Cowboys have their sights set on the top seed in the NFC.
