LUBBOCK, TX – A mother and grandmother experienced a memorable moment on Saturday after a child was born in the parking lot of an apartment complex in Lubbock.
According to a Lubbock news site, on Nov. 28, Jasmyne Hughes, a pregnant mother of one, woke up with contractions. The woman's due date was not until Dec. 4, but just like her first child, the woman went into labor a week early.
Hughes went to the hospital but was told that it wasn't time to have the child yet and was sent home. A little over an hour later, Hughes discovered that the baby was coming.
“At that time, I didn’t even know. But I don’t know, something told me to check, so I checked and I said oh no, her head’s right here. So then I called again, I was like mom her head’s coming, we need to go to the hospital,” said Hughes.
The mother did not panic but instead helped deliver the baby.
“And I said, has your water broke? And as soon as I said that, her water broke. I was like okay. She was like momma, she coming. We sit down in the car. I look, sure enough, there’s a head. I’m like oh my gosh, we’re fixing to have a baby, right here, right now,” said Jasmyne’s mom, Sabrina Hughes.
The Lubbock Fire and EMS were called to the scene and paramedics cut the child umbilical cord. The mother and child were then taken to the hospital to be checked out.
