SAN ANGELO,TX – Some good local high school football teams lost this past week and are putting up football pads and lacing on basketball shoes.

George Halas, the former Chicago Bear great, said that quote. The local teams in the 6-man classification all the way to the 6A classification had some heartbreaking loses.
Two Hornet teams, Irion County and Blackwell, lost their opening post-season games to two of the better 6-man teams in the state, the May Tigers and the Balmorhea Bears. Last season, Balmorhea won state and the Tigers lost in state to the Sterling City Eagles.
The Garden City Bearcats lost a heartbreaker to the Van Horn Eagles 69-70.
In the 2A classification, the 8th ranked Mason Punchers took one on the chin by the Schulenburg Shorthorns 16-29 and the Ozona Lions lost to the Ganado Indians 18-68.
Llano was the site for two local teams to take losses. The Miles Bulldogs lost to the Granger Lions 10-41 and the Christoval Cougars lost to the Burton Panthers, 29-30. After giving up a last minute touchdown and two-point conversion, the Cougars had 13 seconds to make a play. Cougar quarterback Loehman found receiver Beau Jolly over the middle who raced down the field only to be tackled at the 20-yard as time expired.
The Grape Creek Eagles dropped their game to the Alpine Bucks 14-27 and the Wall Hawks had the worst luck in the world in pulling the Brock Eagles, who beat Wall 6-40.
The Brownwood Lions lost to the Kennedale Wildcats 7-37. The Lake View Chiefs also lost their playoff game to Clint 7-33.
Then in 6A, the San Angelo Central Bobcats lost a close game to the Eastlake Falcons 17-21. A somewhat controversial no-call of the final drive of the game is a tough way to lose in the playoffs.
