COSA Animal Shelter Closes Majority of Operations Due to Staffing Shortage

SAN ANGELO, TX – Due to a staffing shortage the city's animal shelter is having to cease a majority of its daily operations.

According to the City of San Angelo's Communication Department, as of Nov. 4, the City of San Angelo's Animal Shelter will only be open for emergency calls.

This change in hours is due to a shortage of staff that the animal shelter is experiencing.

Earlier this week, a San Angelo man stood in front of City Council and asked them to look into upgrading things for the shelter including larger cages and a new dart gun.

In recent years San Angelo has seen an uptick in stray cats and dogs which has put a strain not only on the Animal Shelter but Concho Valley Paws as well. In early 2021 Concho Valley PAWS was approved to build a number of new buildings on the property to house dogs and cats.

Due to the influx in animals and the lack of staffing the shelter will only be open for emergencies.

The animal shelter is located at 3142 U.S. Hwy 67. Their emergency phone number is 325-657-4315.
