CHRISTOVAL, TX- The Christoval Cougars have a chance for their 2nd outright district championship this Friday when the Miles Bulldogs rumble into Jack Pardee Stadium.
Christoval (8-1, 4-0) takes on Miles (3-6, 2-2) in the conclusion to the regular season and should the Cougars be victorious, they would win their district outright for the 2nd time in the school history.
The Cougars have been on a tear this season, knocking 2 state ranked team (Wink Wildcats and Eldorado Eagles) out of the top 10 altogether.
Powered by a running game that features 2 backs who refuse to go down in Josh Fava and Ketcher Joiner and a stingy defense that crashes into you and wears down opposing offenses.
That defense also features two of the top players in the state when it comes to picking off the pass. Defensive backs Cayden Carpenter and Beau Jolly are tied for 2nd and 3rd in the state with a combined 15 interceptions. Carpenter is 3rd in the state and Jolly is 12th as far as individual players go.
Last week, the Cougs dominated the Junction Eagles 48-0 in an all-around beatdown. Christoval’s quarterback Kyle Loehman was 9-10 for 176 yards and 3 touchdowns and the Cougars rushing attack at 318 yards and 4 touchdowns.
The Cougars defense did its job as Tristan Bratton had 18 total tackles, 15 solo, and 3 tackles for loss and both Carpenter and Jolly snagged interceptions.
Miles is sitting in the 4th spot in the district and will be looking to ruin Christoval’s day. Last Friday, the Bulldogs lost a shootout to the Rocksprings Angoras 60-53.
So will Christoval get their championship or will the Bulldogs spoil the fun. COVER1 on SanAngeloLIVE.com will be there for coverage, highlights, and analysis when the Bulldogs travel to Christoval.
