SAN ANGELO, TX – The Midland Legacy Rebels are coming to town to take on the San Angelo Central High Bobcats who will have their hands full stopping not just all-star running back Mahkylin Young, but the rest of the Rebels.
Rebel quarterback Marcos Davila, a sophomore, has been playing very well throwing for 105 completions, 1,888 yards, 17 touchdowns, and 4 interceptions. Davila is averaging 236 yards a game and has almost a 70% completion percentage.
Davila is connecting with his receivers where he has several options.
Wide Receivers Chris Brazzell, Nate Suttle, and x-factor Donny Bishop, all seniors, lead the way in receiving with 71 receptions, 1,449 receiving yards, and 16 touchdowns combined.
But the star power is at running back where Makhilyn Young has 194 yards, 1,524 yards, and 28 touchdowns in 8 games this season. Young has 29 total touchdowns this season, good enough for 2nd in the state for touchdowns.
Stopping the Rebel offense is going to be a challenge and getting things going against the Legacy defense will be difficult as well.
The defense has 75 tackles for loss, 43 quarterback hurries, and 29 sacks on the season.
Jeremiah Alvarado is the Rebel’s defensive leader in tackles with 91 also has 17 tackles for loss, 9 quarterback pressures, and 7 sacks. Linebacker Wesley Smith, defensive linemen Cole Stapleton and Chase Barton are all tied with 4 sacks.
The one place it looks like Central can hurt the Rebels is through the air. The Rebel team has 7 interceptions on the year, which averages to less than 1 per game, and 23 passes defended. If the Bobcat offensive line can give quarterback Tyler Hill time to throw and the receivers can get open, Central could make it a game.
The Bobcats are currently 4th in the district which is good enough for a playoff spot. If Midland and Odessa lose their games tonight, the Bobcats would clinch that spot. Depending on teams to lose isn’t the best way to get to the postseason but Central would certainly take it.
These games going on tonight could determine the playoffs for 6A-1 District 2 and you can tune into COVER1 on SanAngeloLIVE.com tonight at 7:30 p.m. for coverage, highlights and analysis as the Rebels take on the Bobcats, Bulldogs square off against the Eagles, and the Bronchos try and stomp the Tigers.
