Are the Dallas Cowboys a Good Team?

DALLAS, TX- After a win over the New York Giants, the Dallas Cowboys improved to 4-1 on the season and 2-0 in the division. Which asks the question; “Are the Cowboys actually a good team?”

After dropping the season opener to the defending Super Bowl Champs, the Dallas Cowboys have a 4-game winning streak and have really put it on opponents the past 3 weeks.

After the Cowboys 3-point win over the Chargers, they’ve put up 41 against the Eagles, 36 against the Panthers, and 44 against the Giants. Aside from giving up a few garbage time scores, Dallas has been playing extremely well.

Dak Prescott is having himself a season so far. 1,368 yards, for 13 touchdowns against 3 interceptions with a completion percentage of 73.9%. Coming back from a horrific ankle injury, Prescott had a legit shot at being the Comeback Player of the Year.

 Elliott has returned to form running for 452 yards and 5 touchdowns on the season while Tony Pollard has been an incredible complement with 325 yards.

The receivers have gotten their share of targets with both Ceedee Lamb and Amari Cooper over 300 yards on the season so far and Cedrick Wilson has stepped up due to an injury to Michael Gallup. Dalton Schultz has been taken over the tight end job catching 26 passes for 280 yards and 3 touchdowns.

Defensively, the Cowboys have something they really haven’t had in a long time and that’s a cornerback who plays the ball. Trevon Diggs has 6 interceptions in 5 games and the Cowboys have 10 interceptions on the season so far. Diggs also has 10 passes defended

Last season, the Cowboys had 10 interceptions the entire season. If Diggs continues this trend, which nobody really believes is possible, Diggs would have 20 interceptions and 34 passes defended. Eventually, teams will stop throwing at him but leading the NFL is interceptions will be a big talking point when his rookie contract is up.

The front seven have seen an injection of youth in the forms of Micah Parsons, Osa Odighizuwa, and Chauncey Golston. Parsons is leading the team with 2.5 sacks followed by Odighizuwa and Randy Gregory with 2. Golston, who missed the preseason with an injury has half a sack in 3 games.

Dallas isn’t at full strength either. DeMarcus Lawrence has been out with an injury. Michael Gallup has been hurt and pushed Cedrick Wilson into the 3rd receiver spot, and La’El Collins was suspended for missing drug tests. At some points, Dallas is expected to get the players back.

One thing that people can’t take away from the Cowboys is their record. Dallas is 4-1 and have looked good the past three games. They’ve been averaging 34.4 points a game and giving up 23.4 points a game.

Dallas has been playing well and fans should be excited. The defense has been getting turnovers despite giving up over 300 yards. Elliott and Pollard make a good 1-2 punch out of the backfield and the rookies on defense are outperforming expectations.

Dallas needs to continue to take it 1 game at a time. The 1st quarter of the Giants game saw 3 points, an interception and a lost fumble and even though they beat New York by 24 points, it could’ve been a much worse beating.

Next week, they’ll travel to Foxborough to face Bill Belichick’s 2-3 Patriots at 3:25 p.m. Rookie quarterback Mac Jones is commanding the offense but Belichick always has his team prepared.
