FREDERICKSBURG, TX- The Wall Hawks are squaring off against the highly ranked 2A team, the Shiner Comanches, Friday night in Fredericksburg at 7:00 p.m.
Shiner is currently ranked #2 (according to TexasFootball.com) in the state for 2A Division 1 and are undefeated on the season, beating Hallettsville, Blanco, Davenport, Poth, and Burton.
Wall (2-1) on the season, is coming off a bye week after beating the Mason Punchers in the Puncherdome, 20-14.
How does Wall get a win against one of the best teams in the state? After all, Shiner did cap off a perfect season with a state championship last year.
Shiner returned this year with the biggest keys to success with the Brooks brothers, Doug and Dalton.
Doug Brooks, who is 6’2”, 260 lbs., is the running back for Shiner and accounted for nearly 1,000 yards (923), 18 touchdowns and on defense had 8 sacks. Dalton Brooks had over 1,000 yards last season and accounted for 21 total touchdowns.
Worth noting again, Wall is coming off a bye week and so have had an extra week to watch film.
The Hawks had a unique challenge this offseason of finding a whole new defense as zero starters returned on that side of the ball. It wasn’t much better on offense as only 3 starters returned.
Wall is going to have to be methodical in their approach. Run the clock, protect the ball, and keep the Shiner offense on the sidelines.
