Another Night of Ice Forecast Wednesday

Another blast of cold air will continue to blow across the San Angelo area on Wednesday.  This cold front is to be accompanied by showers that transition to a freezing rain/sleet mix around 9 p.m. Wednesday night.

The National Weather Service is forecasting a rain/sleet mix of precipitation that will transition into snow as early as midnight, as temperatures plummet from the 30s down to the mid-20s.

The low tonight is 24 degrees with a 90 percent chance of precipitation, some of which has already hit town. Blustery north and northeasterly winds of 15-20 mph are expected.

Due to precipitation and freezing temperatures, hazardous roadways are to be anticipated. Slippery roads and limited visibility are likely in affected counties. Up to 1/10 of an inch of ice is possible in the area.

A winter weather advisory is in effect for the following counties: Brown, Coleman, Coke, Concho, Irion, McCulloch, Runnels, San Saba, Sterling and Tom Green, including the cities of Ballinger, Brady, Brownwood, Bronte, Coleman, Eden, Mertzon, Robert Lee, San Angelo, San Saba, Sterling and Winters. The advisory is in effect until 4 p.m. Thursday.

Patrick Doll at the National Weather Service in San Angelo, estimated an accumulation of one quarter to one half inch of snow Wednesday night. Ice accumulation may impede travel Thursday morning.  TxDOT is prepared to sand down streets and bridges accordingly.
