ABILENE – Can that Mojo Magic get revenge on Abilene Eagles and start off with a win in district?
Permian (3-1) will be looking to set things right against the Abilene Eagles (2-2) this Friday after they lost last season 27-25 on an interception in the endzone.
Permian was driving down the field towards the goal line when a false start penalty back them up.
With 2:37 seconds left, on 3rd and 7 from the 10-yard line, Periman decided to try some trickery so on the snap, the quarterback handed the ball off to a receiver on a jet sweep, who pitched the ball to another Permian 22, a running back, to throw the ball into the endzone.
Just as the ball sailed across the front of the endzone, an Abilene Eagle swooped in front of the Permian receiver and intercepted the pass.
A few Abilene plays later, the game was over.
The offense runs through Abel Ramirez, who has accounted for 990 yards of offense in 4 games. Ramirez has 3 passing touchdowns and 6 rushing touchdowns and has 65 rushing attempts so far. The next closest is running back Da’King Thomas with 33 carries.
The Permian defense was young last season as they returned 7 starters, including all-state honorable mention defensive back Kayden Baze and all-district pick, defensive back Corey McCoy.
The linebacking corp of Dorethy, Clinton, Sharp, and Quiroz will have to get him Ramirez off his game. Those 4 have 18 of the teams total 24 tackles for loss. Baze in the secondary has 2 interceptions and 1 pass defended while McCoy has 4 passes defended.
Will the extra experience of the Permian defense help them stop Abel Ramirez and the Eagle offense? Watch COVER 1 on SanAngeloLIVE.com for coverage, highlights, and analysis of the Permian @ Abilene game this Friday at 7:30 p.m.
