A late-model black Dodge Avenger was hit by a truck hauling "non-potable" liquid at the intersection of S. Abe Street and W. Concho Ave. We were told that this kind of truck picks up grease from restaurants around the area and delivers the grease to recycling services.
Police have blocked two southbound lanes on Abe while working the scene. The driver of the Avenger is injured. We don't know how badly, but San Angelo EMS crews are treating the driver on-scene.
We have no official reports from police and it is not known who is at fault.
Update 6:40 p.m.
The police have finished the investigation, and this is what they said.
Both vehicles were heading south on Abe Street. The Avenger was in the inside lane. The Grease truck was a in a lane west (right) of the Avenger. Approaching W. Concho, the Avenger driver said she didn’t see the grease truck changing lanes to make a left turn onto Concho. The truck hit the Avenger while changing lanes and pursuing the turn.
Police cited the grease truck driver for making an improper turn. The Avenger driver was rushed to Shannon Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
